Fabric Print Embellishments

Fabric Print Embellishments

Printed fabric is a great way to embellish all sorts of crafts. Print titles for scrapbooking. Print patches for book covering and loads more.

What you need

Piece of calico
Iron
Card stock
Photo tabs
Computer Printer

Instructions

We are literally going to put the fabric through the computer printer.

To start off cut your fabric the same size as an A4 piece of cardstock.

Using adhesive photo tabs or repositionable glue secure the fabric to the cardstock. Iron any creases out of the fabric so it is nice and smooth.

Then simply place it into the computer printer and print as normal. There is no need to reverse your image or text.

Make funky titles for scrapbooking by fraying the edges or using a sewing machine to sew around the fabric title. These are lots of fun to make.

I would not recommend using this for items that need to be washed but its suitable for all other projects.

Comments

  1. Freezer paper can be used instead of cardstock – Cut the paper and fabric to the 8 1/2 by 11 size, iron the fabric to the paper and put through the printer. Much easier to handle.

  2. After printing rinse the fabric in COLD running water. If some of the ink washes off, absorb it by patting with a paper towel. Don’t rub! Then iron dry with a dry iron. This will help to set the color.

  3. You will also want to up the saturation of the image in an image editing program, as the image will print much lighter on fabric, than the original.

  4. Computer Ink is not color fast as the info above states.

  5. How would/could you make the fabric colorfast? I love this idea. Much cheaper than purchased printable fabric!

  6. brilliant idea
