DIY Crochet Chick Magnet

Make this clever crochet pattern that features a chick - and attach a magnet at the end to make a true chick magnet!

What you need

Small amount worsted weight yarn, (Yellow or White)
Small amount worsted weight yarn, (Orange or Yellow)
Crochet hook, size E Finishing Materials
Small Plastic eye
Glue
1/3 yard narrow ribbon
Tapestry needle
Magnet

Finished Size: 4″ tall

Instructions

Head:

(Using Yellow or White)
Rnd 1) Ch 4; 11 dc in 4th chain from hook; join with a slip st in 4th ch of beg ch 4: 12 dc. Fasten off, leaving a 6″ tail to sew to body.

Body & Tail:

(Using Yellow or White)
Rnd 1) Ch 5; 17 trc in 5th chain from hook; join with a slip st in 5th ch of beg ch 5; (18 trc), (slip st in next trc, ch 2, dc dec in same st and next trc (yo, insert hook in same st, draw up a loop, yo, draw through 2 loops on hook once, yo, insert hook in next st, draw up a loop, yo, draw through 2 loops on hook once, yo, draw through last 3 loops on hook to complete the stitch). Fasten off, secure ends.

Skip next 3 trc on body from Tail, using 6″ tail from Head, thread tapestry needle and sew head onto body through back loops of next 3 trc on body and corresponding 3 dc on head. Weave in end.

Legs:

(Using Orange or Yellow)
Right side facing, skip next 4 trc on body from Tail, attach yarn to next trc; * Ch 5, slip st in 2nd ch from hook and in next chain, (ch 2, slip st in 2nd ch from hook, slip st in next ch on beg. ch 5) twice, slip st in last 2 chains of beg. ch 5, slip st in same st on Body, * slip st in next trc on Body; repeat from * to * once. Fasten off, secure ends.

Beak:

(Using Orange or Yellow)
Skip next 6 dc on head from where head and body are joined, right side facing, attach yarn to next dc; Ch 1, sc in same st. Fasten off, secure ends.

Finishing:

Glue eye to head where desired and attach magnet to backside. Tie ribbon into a bow and glue to neck of chick. Enjoy!
