p purl
st(s) stitch or stitches
Gauge 18 sts/24 rows = 4” x 4”, (10.2 cm)

Notes regarding gauge: It’s important, and helpful, to knit a swatch before starting any project. Your swatch will ensure accuracy in the final fit, especially when substituting a yarn. Regardless of the needle size indicated in the pattern, use whatever size gives you the stated gauge for the project. The yarn band gauge suggests a yarn will work to a certain number of stitches, however, your gauge will vary according to tension, needle size, yarn, and stitches used.

I sprayed the scarf with tepid water, placed on the ironing board and used an ironing cloth or a cloth you have on hand (very important) over the scarf and lightly ironed over the scarf with a low heat to prevent felting. After ironing, I placed it flat on a towel to dry completely where it would be undisturbed. You can also use a rust proof pin and lay flat on a blocking mat, board or towel and dry overnight if you don’t feel comfortable using an iron.

  1. I love this pattern and it’s very easy. But the sides are starting to curl is this ok?

  2. Colleen Britz says

I’m always looking for new and EASY patterns to try.

  3. On Row1 where you write “Row1: k2,p2 across row and knit the last stitch, p1” you mean k2,p2 till the end of the row and the last two stitches are k1,p1 OR k2,p2 across row, last stitch p1??

  4. Thank you for the quick easy fun pattern. Not sure where the confusion came unless you corrected the pattern before I found it. In any event, I’m about half way finished and hope to finish this weekend before the next cold snap Monday! Thx!

  5. It’s an elegant pattern. Here is what I got (w/ picture)

Confusion – Don’t put a pattern that nobody can understand. Why not just correct and be done with it?

  7. Carol Frohman says

I think this pattern really looks great,BUT-when I printed it, the second page with the directions on it, it printed up with a lot of ads and mention of subscribing to their newsletter. I tried it a second time; the same thing happened. How can I get the second page of the Autumn Wowza Scarf?
I really like to check out the knitting projects, They look like they would be good to do.

Hi Carol – to get a printable version without the ads – simply login and click on the print this project link at the end of the project.

  8. Dear Marg,
the ‘updated download’ you suggested for those of us who have questions doesn’t seem to ANSWER the questions asked. Could you possibly please just answer those questions so we can actually try knitting your pattern? For instance, if one knits 2 and purls 2 across the first row, knits the last stitch, how can one POSSIBLY purl another stitch? that would require 36 co instead of 35. Was 35 a typo? Was the p1 a typo? Also, when you turn the project to knit the 2nd row, it won’t turn out a ribbing if I follow the directions you’ve given. Can you PLEASE PLEASE clarify this for us, because I am DYING to try this pattern, but I don’t want to be taking it apart 20 times just to knit it once. I would SO appreciate your time and attention 😀 Pretty please with a cherry on top???? 😀

  9. I had to change the 4th pattern row to Knit, according to the picture the purl row was wrong. The ribbing is very pretty although a little confusing. not for beginners.

  10. this a beautiful yet warm, fashionable awesome scarf!

  11. I can’t even get through the first row. The second row won’t look like ribbing of K2,P2.
    Help.

  12. LOVE the looks of this scarf/pattern. I’ll definitely make one. Thanks

  13. I just have a Question about the ribbing rows at the beginning of the pattern. It says Row 1 k2, p2 across row and knit the last stitch, p1.
My question is…How can you knit the last stitch and then P1 ?
Your scarf looks so warm and soft.

  14. Thanks so much for this patten. I will enjoy knitting this, thanks again.
It definetly looks warm and will make a great gift.

  15. Thank you for your suggestion. I try to keep the pattern pages to a minimum depending on the difficulty. There have been numerous requests for more tips and info for this pattern so I have included them here for beginning knitters. Many of my patterns have a resource section on the last page. If you don’t need the info while you’re knitting, by all means, feel free to only print the pattern portion whenever possible.

A big thanks to Shellie of Craftbits.com for taking time away from her busy schedule to update this pattern page.

Thank you for taking a moment to comment and for your enthusiasm, I appreciate your feedback.

    Happy holiday knitting!

  16. Five stars because its a beautiful scarf. I have not knitted one yet. Thank you for sharing the pattern. Would like to say though that it is too many pages to print so I will have to hand copy the pattern. Could you condense the pattern into printable form? Oops-I see below you have referenced one. But for future patterns…..Thanks again.

  17. ARE YOU SURE ROW THREE IS CORRECT IN THE PATTERN… SHOULD IT NOT BE
    K1,P1,*K5,P3,K5,REPEAT FROM *,LAST TWO STITCHES, K1, P1

    • Just found this scarf pattern and I can’t wait to try it! Is there a matching hat pattern? I am doing sets for Christmas gifts. Thanks

    • Your initial 2 rows do not make a ribbing. Row 1 k2, p2 across row to last 3 sts. k2,p1.
Row 2 Repeat Row 1 … when you start with row 2 you have a single p1, then k2 and that messes up the ribbing of k2, p2. You revised pattern still is not correct.
